1965 ~ Paris, France

Sgt.  Byrons died in an off-duty traffic accident.

JAMES C. MARSHALL

Corporal ~ USMC

 

31 JAN 1968 ~ Saigon, Vietnam

Cpl Marshall was the first Marine Security Guard killed in the defense of an American Embassy. Cpl Marshall was 21 years old. The Marine Security Guard School building (Marshall Hall) at MCB Quantico was named in his honor.


CHARLES W. TURBERVILLE

Sergeant ~ USMC

 

26 SEP 1971 ~ Phnon Penh, Khmer Republic

Sgt Turberville was killed and other Marine Security Guards were wounded during a terrorist attack on the U.S. Embassy softball game in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

 

DARWIN L. JUDGE

Corporal ~ USMC

 

29 APR 1975 ~ Saigon, Vietnam

LCpl Judge & Cpl McMahon, Marines from the Marine Security Detachment in Saigon, were killed during an artillery attack while providing security for the Defense Attaché Office, at Tan Son Nhut Airport, Saigon. Last two Americans killed in Vietnam.

 

CHARLES McMAHON, Jr.

29 APR 1975 ~ Saigon, Vietnam

LCpl Judge & Cpl McMahon, Marines from the Marine Security Detachment in Saigon, were killed during an artillery attack while providing security for the Defense Attaché Office, at Tan Son Nhut Airport, Saigon. Last two Americans killed in Vietnam.

 

BOBBY A. ROMERO

01 MAR 1978 ~ Paris, France

Sgt Romero died while fighting a fire at his post at the U.S. Embassy in Paris.

STEVEN J. CROWLEY

21 NOV 1979 ~ Islamabad, Pakistan

Cpl Crowley was killed by sniper fire during an attack by a mob on the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.

 

 

ROBERT V. McMAUGH

Corporal ~ USMC

 

18 APR 1983 ~ Beirut, Lebanon

Corporal McMaugh was manning Post 1 when the embassy was attacked on April 18, 1983. He lost his life along with 16 other Americans and dozens of Lebanese citizens when terrorists slammed a van with 2,000 pounds of explosives into the embassy.

Cpl Elliott died in an off-duty accident while attempting to board one of the Paris Metro coaches.

JONATHAN E. WATSON

01 JAN 1985 ~ Asuncion, Paraguay

Sgt Watson had completed his MSG tour, which included postings in Bogota Columbia and Asuncion  Paraguay.  He died in the crash of Eastern Airlines Flight 980 which departed Asuncion bound for La Paz , Bolivia.
