Stationed at Jerusalem with 3 other Marines. Times were tough but fun. Our quarters were in a bombed out convent. Consulate family was very close-knit and the locals that worked there were very loyal. We covered both Consulates, Israel and Jordan. When UAR went in to effect the Consulate was stoned and flag was burned. Israeli and Jordanian skirmishes occurred almost weekly. I have many photos to share.

I'm not a Marine. I have tremendous respect for the job you people do around the world. And I understand that loyalty to the office of the President may prevent you from answering, and I'm not asking for answers that might threaten national security, but I have some questions. And instead of relying on our unreliable news sources, I thought I'd ask the ones who should know.
Is it true that there were no Marines guarding the US Consulate in Benghazi on September 11, 2012? Are Marine guards still guarding our Embassies and the White House? And if so, why would there be no Marines assigned to guard our Embassy in Libya? And when were the Marines removed from guarding the Libyan Embassy?

5 MSG's opened the Embassy in June, 1970. S/Sgt Osche, Sgt Glenn Brown, Sgt William Krajci, L/Cpl Daniel Ward,(replaced by Sgt Steve Amraen),Cpl Steve Katzmann, and later, L/Cpl Enloe. The original Marine House was across the street from the Olympic Stadium. I was the last of the original 5 to leave, 14 months later, in August, 1971. By then, the Embassy had grown from 15 Americans working out of the Charge d'Affaires house to over 200 out of the new, 4-story Embassy. An exciting year! Then, I was stationed in Brussels, Belgium from August, 1971 until June, 1972. I was on duty less than 30 days at Brussels NATO HQ when the old Cambodian Charge d'Affaires walked in, saw me, shook my hand, and asked me if I'd heard about Sgt Turberville's death the day before, and he filled me in. A tragic loss of a good Marine... However, as I look back, I can say it was the my best 2 years of duty in the Corps!! Semper Fi to all who served!

Just watched the movie "Argo." about the Tehran Embassy takeover and rescue of the six members that fled to the Canadian Embassy and the CIA/Canadian rescue. Great flick! Recommend it to everyone.
