In Belgrade they used to call me "Dan'l" because I was from Kentucky (i.e. Daniel Boone) and I could shoot the 12 gauge riot shotgun really, really well.

It was with great sadness today that I learned my fellow Geneva Marine and good friend, MSgt Angelo "Goody" Goodwin (Monrovia '84-'86; Geneva '86-'87) passed away unexpectedly. After 25 years in the Corps ('80-'05), he retired after serving with 8th&I Barracks, Washington DC. Goody, as his name suggests, was a good-hearted Marine. I fondly remember teaching him how to ski at Flaine, France... (yes, I may have pushed him down the slope the first time--and laughed a few times as he was getting back up on the button lift). He was a good person, a good Marine, and a damn good friend.... He will be missed. Nevertheless, I am sure God called him to serve one more time because he needed another Marine to guard the streets of Heaven. So... Semper fi friend, and someday I hope to relieve you on post, just as I did in Geneva.

SGM arrested at PI. Wearing MSG ribbon. Anybody wan a bet he gets off? SgtMajPaulArchieMarine sergeant major and no-shit war hero Paul Archie is charged with "assaulting" a protester at Parris Island. The protester was wearing a Marine hat, and Sgt. Maj. Archie removed the hat and returned to base with it — explaining that the campaign hats famously worn by Marine drill sergeants, as Archie had been, were USMC property. It’s unclear whether the protester was an ex-Marine, or just a wannabe; and the story never explains what exactly the protester was protesting. (Many protesters seem to think protesting is more about the attention-seeking in the moment than about trying to achieve any goal in particular — see, for example, Open Carry Texas). Archie, who serves as senior enlisted adviser to Parris Island’s commanding general, approached a protest taking place on Parris Island Gateway near Marina Boulevard, police said. The group was protesting negotiations that led to the release last month of a U.S. Army soldier held captive by a Taliban-aligned group in Afghanistan, police confirmed. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was exchanged for five Taliban prisoners in a swap negotiated by the U.S. government. Archie got into a heated argument with a protester who wore a military campaign hat. At one point, Archie’s head struck the hat, knocking it off the protester’s head, the release said. Archie took the hat and proceeded onto Parris Island, where he was stopped at the gate, according to the release. Staff retrieved the hat and returned it to its owner. The Port Royal Police Department would not release the protester’s name. Archie told officers he had spoken with the man before the incident and asked him not to wear the campaign hat at the protest. When Archie drove past the group and saw the man wearing the hat, he stopped his car, got out and exchanged words with the protester, the report said. Archie told police he "felt spittle strike his face," then told the protester his hat was government property and tried to retrieve it. The protester told officers that Archie lunged at him and had to be restrained by police who were already at the scene of the protest, the report said. The police investigation was interrupted by a severe thunderstorm, and officers told Archie he could leave the area. They contacted him later that evening to inform him a warrant had been issued for his arrest. via Parris Island sergeant major charged in alleged assault during protest – Marine Corps – Stripes. The sad thing is that today’s Politically Correct Marine Corps may be delighted to hang Archie out to dry. The other sad thing is that he just knocked the hat, and not the head, off the individual stylin’ and profilin’ in headgear of great symbolism to the USMC. Another fantastic Reunion, thanks to Kevin Hermening. At this time, I would like to humbly "Thank" the Board of Directors, and all the MEGA Members for allowing me the opportunity to receive the 2014 "FOUNDER'S AWARD". It is deeply appreciated. (And as most of you know, "humbly" is a word not much associated with me). Tim Wood offered me the chance to say a few words…. When have you ever seen me so speechless? Thanks again. Denny
