I'd like to contact as many former members of the Saigon PSU/PPSU as possible. I've got most of the names from the early years ('65-'68)and the very last ('75) From '68 to '74 is a mystery. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I was one of the original 4) Semper fi, Howie (Dai-uy) Evers

I found this website purely by chance. My Grandparents, MSGT Thomas L. McHugh and Pat are in several pictures taken at the Embassy in S. Korea during the mid 60's. I want to sincerely thank all those who contribute to this site and Mr. Grant for his efforts. I had no idea any of those pictures existed and I am so excited to be able to give my daughters a chance to learn more about their proud and honorable family history! Thank you again!

First time i've seen this site. It is missing a lot of info from the 70's. I have some pictures from the years I was an MSG but can not see how to submit them. If you could help me I would be glad to help increase your photo page. I would also give you some additional post data.

I apologize in the late posting of this entry. There is a Guestbook entry posted by GySgt. Donaldson which may have been viewed as being critical of the content of MEGA website. I replied to him asking about his comments on the posted entry and found that he was reporting a long standing database application error in Guestbook & Guestbook Archive search process. His entry in no way was meant to be disrespectful of the content or work done by all of the MEGA volunteers who spend countless hours in support our website. The Guestbook application error has been corrected and I thank GySgt. Donaldson for reporting it.

I share Jim Tracy's reaction to Mark Donaldson's remark that the Site has more issues. For those that know Jim's wife Mary and the of all the work she's done to build up information on our legacy I hope you all feel the same. Mark, I don't mean to take your remark out of context, and want the organization to understand the criticism for it's value. How many volunteers are currently active? ...no, I mean actively active! Mary works tirelessly to gather information for each detachments webpage and there aren't any Marines available to take those handoffs. We've got over 16,000 images! How many stories are out there that haven't been submitted? How many of you participated in historically significant events? How many have memories that are worth sharing (privately and publically). Mark, a ton of work has gone into building the site...all (or a significant %) has been done through the volunteer efforts of only 10 - 15 Marines and wives over 14 years. This can, does (and did) cause burn-out especially when there is no backup or constant influx of new people taking up the challenge and joining the effort. If you like the concept of having a historical site you can go to, reviewing MSG experiences, please take on a few hours a month and help patch up the broken pieces Mark has pointed out. And if you are amazed at the amount of data being displayed...please thank Mary Tracy for all her continued efforts (and Jim for helping keep her safe and sane!) Semper Fi Brothers and Sisters!!!

In response to Gunnery Sergeant Donaldson comment regarding the site, I would like to invite him to volunteer to assist and improve the MEGA website. My wife, a retired Foreign Service Secretary, has labored for 9 years collecting history, names and pictures. This is your history, not her history and I am sure she would like to bow out - who wants to spend the hours she does? Jim Tracy

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise; anyone that knew me back then as a young rowdy Cpl/Sgt would surely never had believed I would end my career as an E-9. Looking back at my tours in Saigon and Bangkok I cherished the good times and learned many a valuable lesson from the bad. The opportunity to serve with so many fine and honorable Marine Security Guards has always been a source of pride throughout my life. Semper Fi, Devil Dogs.

Marine Corps Birthday is just around the corner. To those who served in London during the early 70's, greeting and well wishes. I'm still trying to get a Senator friend of mine to secure CMC MC birthday invites so we can all meet up in DC and have a long overdue reunion. 2015 is the target... Cheers Ron

I went to a mass yesterday for All Soul’s Day, the Priest said "In November We Remember." I was just reading Kai Bird’s ‘The Good Spy’: Robert Ames, it describes the ’83 Beirut Embassy suicide bombing and Cpl Robert V. McMaugh. When I returned to Quantico in July ’83 Cpl. McMaugh’s logbook and duty belt were in a glass case at Bn. Headquarters. "In November We Remember." Also, tomorrow is Nov. 4th, thirty five years ago, MSG Detachment Tehran stood brilliantly, bravely, and defiantly against all odds. As we have learned, the dictates of prudence, professionalism, and a historical perspective and context saved many lives. I remember Col. Cooper telling our MSG class in Quantico how proud he was of MSG Detachment Tehran in summer of '80. "In November We Remember." MSG’s/US have faced threats daily since inception, not just 9/11/2001, though you all know that. Here’s a quote from and Paper which puts some context into our world, past, present, and future; In the 1880s, an initial "Anarchist Wave"(6) appeared which continued for some 40 years. Its successor, the "Anti-Colonial Wave" began in the 1920s, and by the 1960s had largely disappeared. The late 1960s witnessed the birth of the "New Left Wave," which dissipated largely in the 90s leaving a few groups still active in Sri Lanka, Spain, France, Peru, and Columbia. The fourth or "Religious Wave" began in 1979, and, if it follows the pattern of its predecessors, it still has twenty to twenty-five years to run. From David Rapoport Paper: http://www.anthropoetics.ucla.edu/ap0801/terror.htm Semper Fi and Happy Birthday on November 10.
